Serving & Outreach
Common Grace
Common Grace began in 1999 after founder Jay Jarman, a former youth pastor and storyteller, was deeply moved by the Columbine tragedy. While supervising detention at Aiea High School, he noticed how many students felt isolated and lacked caring adults in their lives. This realization led him to launch Common Grace, formally established as a nonprofit in 2003. The organization’s mission is to connect highly vulnerable youth—often facing challenges like homelessness, family instability, bullying, or language barriers—with caring mentors from faith communities, businesses, civic groups, and local high schools. Mentors meet with students one hour a week on campus to build trust, encourage growth, and offer consistent relational support.

The people that come to Diamond Head receive a hot meal but leave with so much more. We have created a community — they are our neighbors and we call them friends. We believe we are called by God to serve those in need. We do it with obedience, compassion and faith. We invite you to join the fellowship, not because we need more volunteers there, but because a life-changing experience and blessing awaits you.
"Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”
LOOKING TO SERVE?
SERVING
Before we ever began serving, we were already shown love. Jesus came to serve, not to be served, and this principle guides everything we do here. We don't serve to earn God's love; instead, we serve because we've already been loved, and that love needs a way to flow out. This is the heart of our vision at Kaimuki Christian Church: to live and love like Jesus, not just as a slogan but in our everyday lives.
Jesus moved toward people, but He wouldn’t let them remain the same. He showed them how to live and love in a way that glorified the Father. That’s the kind of genuine relational outreach we aim for, where the Gospel spreads through real relationships, not just programs. Whether you’re serving on a Sunday morning, walking alongside someone on a journey of recovery, caring for our keiki, or praying quietly behind the scenes, the goal remains the same: every act of service is an act of love that moves people toward faith. You don’t need a title or a perfect story to start. All you need is a heart willing to love the person in front of you. Share a little about yourself, and we’ll help you find your place.
