J.R. Cuevas has been serving the Lord as a vocational minister of the gospel for the last 15 years. He has always had the ambition to return to Hawaii to assist in the work of the Lord in the region where he was raised. In July 2021, the Lord granted his desire, and he and his family have been living in Hawaii since. Currently guest preaching for several churches, he is ministering as a high school teacher at Kaimuki Christian School,  part of the faculty at Bethlehem College and Seminary's Hawaii extension, and as adjunct faculty for Bible Institute of Hawaii.

Previously, J.R. pastored first in San Diego, California then in the San Fransisco Bay Area, where he and his family were for the last 11 years before moving to Hawaii. Alongside serving as a pastor and elder at his local church, he also served there at a Christian school as both a teacher and principal.

J.R. is married to his wife Kathy for 13 years, and they have two kids, Jayden (11) and Emma (10).
